Hey guys--
I have an `02 Cavalier that I might be trading for an `89 Bronco--straight up. I need advice as to whether of not this is a good idea/deal.
I know my rig is in top mechanical shape: runs well, no leaks, no problems at all.
The other guy is very cool and has revealed all the problems with his rig:
4x4 motor is out (is this easy to replace), leaking steering box (scares me the most), couple of window motors out--no biggie to me. New brakes and good tires on it. Paint's not great but either is mine.
I will also be cutting my mpgs in half. The Cavy gets close to 30 and the Bronco will be about half that. I live one mile away from work so I don't really care.
I am a Ford guy. I have a `76 F-100 2wd with a 390 in it. I rebuilt the truck all last year.
Just looking for general advice for the transaction.
Thanks.
To me, cavaliers fall into the category of "throw away" cars. They're worth so little even in excellent shape, that if a major problem arises they aren't worth repairing. They are cheap cars built to save money for the consumer and the manufacturer and I think it shows. That being said they aren't horrible transportation. I owned a 96 and used it as my commuter to save some money and never had any problems out of it till it threw a rod.
Broncos on the other hand hold there value extremely well. Parts are MUCH easier to obtain and can be found used very easily, which means you can save a ton of money if a repair is needed. Do the trade, you won't be disappointed.
