prothane control arm bushings

Mine came with some grease to use at installation. I think that is supposed to help prevent the squeaking.

I still have not removed mine yet.

these pics are a bit fuzzy, but I think it's still clear that somethings not right.

Judging by the pic you have there, the NEW bushing you show is for the end of the I-beam, NOT the end of the radius arm (which it appears you're holding the new bushing next too). The radius arm bushings are two piece, and the peices look either identical, (F350's) or similar, with the rear peice fitting just slightly inside the front peice (F100-250's)

Sounds like a cross-communication in part names from Prothane.

To all you truckers contemplating using the prothane kit I say to you the handling difference is remarkable. The old girl thinks she's a f-100 cobra.

I was thinking that it may be a different part, but I don't think there is anything remaining in the kit after the tie-rod bushings and cab-mountings. I didn't realize there was a bushing at the axle ends. They labeled these the "axle pivot bushing". What would they call the control arm bushings?

I'll have to look some more, maybe I have some other bushings left. I have not actually installed any of them yet, so it's still a bit confusing.

Me thinks I have it figured out now. I found another package labeled S/A bushings. That's what I needed. They look more like the right size.

BTW, it looks like I may have some leaf spring bushings left over. In all, I have 12 leaf spring bushings, and I replaced them with standard bushings last year.

I have 2 packages containing 6 bushings labeled as follows:

1. FORD 2WD RR BUSH F100/150 57-72

2. FORD 2WD RR BUSH 73-9F100/-81F150

I think I tried this kit when I replaced my leaf spring bushings, notice they don't mention the F250. Although, the kit is sold through JC Whitney as fitting f100-F350.

Anybody know what RR means?

RR is probaby for rear/rear (as in rear axle/rear spring bushings, as opposed to RF-rear axle/front spring bushings).

As for the extra bushings, some rear axles (like mine) had the 1250 lb springs (rather than an even 1/2 ton) which has a seperate system on the rear half of the spring, called the "Flex-o-matic". It goes around, and over the spring, with a flat spot on the top. Hard to describe, but here's a link to a pic of the spring system: Flex-o-matic It takes 3 bushings on the rear of each spring, rather than 2.

It's in .pdf format, so scroll down to about page 22 (in the Acro-reader, not the page on the catalog, it's different) and you'll see it.
Page 16 will show you what your front radius arm bushings should look like; note the difference between the F350 ( box on right side) and the F100-F250. The 1 ton bushings will install, but not properly, nor will they work correctly. Ask me how I know!

You'll also see the I-beam (axle-pivot) bushing on that page as well. It's the same for 1/2 to 1 ton.

HTH!
