Question Rotating manual shifter

Just bought a 2001 F-150 XLT Sport 4x2, 4.2L, manual trans., 16k miles. My first truck! It's beautiful! However, in these first three days, the shifter has "rotated" about 90 degrees (the 1-3-5[O] on the shifter *** now face the passenger door). I can't simply twist the *** back to the correct position (I've tried), so I think the whole shaft is rotating. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is this a prelude to disaster... ??

i doubt the whole shifter is turning, actually it would be impossible unless the pin it pivots on is broken, which would make it nearly impossible to shift. it is a common problem to have the shift **** turn.

Its usually the inset in the ****. My transfer case lever does it too. All you have to do is use four fingers and turn the little circle. Very easy too do.

Success! Thanks J.R. I had a real rock in my stomach thinking that the whole transmission was shot. I'm going to superglue the stupid little inset where it belongs.

Now i just have to fiind something else for the transfer case lever. Another 8 ball is out of the question and would just be stupid to have two of them. A 9 ball maybe?

Beer tap handles make cool T-case *****. My grandfather has a Miller High-Life one on his PTO lever.
