I stumbled across this coolant the other day advertised by dieselsite and was wondering if anybody heard of this or thought it was a good or bad idea to run it in our trucks
I know a few folks who run it in their trucks and they seem very pleased with the performance of the coolant. If I towed full time I would probably use the stuff myself.
I've been using it for atleast 3-4 years now. Nice clean clear coolant. Flush good and use a bypass filter. Get another cap for your degas bottle and drill a small hole in it. Run that for a few hundred miles to allow the water you can't get out to boil off, you'll know most of it is gone when theres little condesation left in the top of bottle. Then put the good cap back on. No, its not necessarily a 0 pressure system.
I used it in one of my race cars for a while. I personally didn't notice any difference in the performance of my cooling. For some people, the ability to run the cooling system at 0 pressure is a benefit. For some, the tolerance of higher temps is a benefit. For some, the waterless aspect is a benefit.
For these trucks, I don't see a benefit. The stock cooling system is very robust. Just do a good flush on it, add a filter and use some good coolant and you're good to go.
I ran it for a about 100K, then had a water pump go, followed by an oil cooler, followed by a radiator....and waiting for shipping etc was a PIA So I went with CAT ELC. It worked well and I never had any issues with it (all the failures high mileage 300K +) but the only benefit I ever really saw was how easy it was to keep the cooling system leak free. Now that I am back to reg ELC it feels like I am fighting leaks everytime the weather changes.
If you decide to go that route let me know, I have 4 gallons of the NPG+ I would let go cheap.
I've run Evans in all my powerstrokes since 2005. I love the stuff. Probably 250,000 miles on it.
Steve, I'm in Spokane right now and will be back and forth between here and Medford all summer. If you still have yours in the spring, I'll buy it.
what id want it for is the fact that is a low pressure system, I as well fight leaks whenever the weather changes and it gets old after a while, I also like the fact that its water less. Im not dedicated to using it i just found it and was curious. bfife is that 250000 service free?
I saw it in Barney's truck... talk about looking like clean-ish oil in the degas bottle.
I, too, lost too much coolant this year. I lost it to a pump, to an oil cooler, to cups (twice), and to a mechanic that didn't secure my dual-alternator hose. I'm running green until Stinky gets past the terrible twos.

I didn't run zero pressure because it was unclear as to whether the water pump seal needed pressure or not. I still don't know. Maybe Barney will fill us in on whether he kept a pressure cap or not. That amount of miles would tell the story. 0 pressure does have advantages for hoses and less leak potential. No water, no rust. It looks like iced tea, or as Rich observed, "clean oil".
that's right, 250K and no leaks, no hoses, no water pumps. I do run it at 0 pressure. Never have to worry about a blown hose again. also never have seen my trucks run hot. even climbing Stevens pass in august with 18K behind it. I like the stuff.
