Has he ever said if the indexing plate is there? I wonder?
Probably he doesn't know what an indexing plate is... I'm guessing you're talking about the the thin piece of sheet metal-like substance sandwiched between the engine & transmission?
Yup.. that guy in Minnesota told me over the phone that the bell housing, with manual tranny and hydraulic clutch was a very rare bell housing. Only made 2 years he said.
Leroy,
'83-'97 all had hydraulic clutches.
The later ZF5-speeds had an integral bell.
Those bellhousings were made from '83 until at least '88.
Any 4 speed manual 460 from these years had one.
They may be getting rare now, because many of them have snapped the slave cylinder boss off the outside of the casting.
I know mine did.
I replaced it, and when I switched to a ZF the old one sold within a day of my listing it.

7007 in the drawing....
Yes, I call it that because it indexes the starter. I think Ford has another name for it.
Over the years I've seen a few Ford engines that would eat starter drives like crazy. An old trick we used to do was to switch to a 10 tooth starter drive. Most Ford drives from that era had 9 teeth, the 10 tooth drive is slightly oversized which would usually solve the problem. Just thought I'd pass that tip along.
