I apologize if this question seems redundant but what backspacing are you guys running on the rear of your lowered Slicks? It can be either an 8" or 10" rim. I'm looking at 8" rims with 275/60-15 tires. Rear axle is stock with drum brakes.
I have the front straightened out wheel and tire wise but haven't had many replies on the rears.
Thanks!
im running a 15x7 rear wheel with a 3.5 back spacing, with a 1979 rear end which is 3 inches wider than yours(if stock). so my effective back spacing is two inches. (3.5-1.5 per side= 2.0)
my wheel and tire, 235/75 15, is about as close as is safe and physically possible to the bed sides, maybe could go .25 more but it would be rubbing going up driveways and such. that means that you could get away safely with a 15x8 with a 3 inch back spacing or a 10 with 5 inch or so back spacing. but if it were me id err on the side of .50 inch too much B.S. and add a 1/2 inch spacer if needed.
the easiest way to verify this is to get a piece of angle iron exactly half the diameter of the tire you want to run. drill a hole in one endto fit over a lug on the rear axle. rotate the axle to various locations and measure inboard to the leafs and bed, and outboard to bedside. what ever the max distances are, minus about .25 to .5 for side to side shimmy and axle articulation, is the most B.S. and F.S. you can run.
remember that your tire will pooch outside the rim and that the rim width is bead to bead so your rims will be physically wider than your measurements.
