Rim size for 255/70r15

Hello. I am ready to put new wheels on my 56. I am going with 255/70/15 rear and 235/70/15 fronts. Should I go with 15x8 and 15x7, or 15x7 and 15x6? I like some sidewall bulge but don't want it to look odd. Looking for advice from anyone who has been down this road. Thanks!

For the P235/70/15 tire, the rim can be anywhere from 6 to 8 wide. For the P255/70/15 tire 6" is too narrow, but anywhere from 6 1/2 to 8 1/2 is good. There are lots of wheel choices for 7" including wrecking yards and aftermarket.

I ran a 255/70 R15 tire on the rear of my 32 Ford for years. It was mounted on a 15 x 7 wheel. Unless you have power steering I would run a smaller and taller tire up front...more like a 215/75 R15 for easier steering. The wide tires up front have a tendency to do the steering for you due to the ruts in the pavement left by large trucks.

I went with rear wheel- 15x8 with 4.5" backspacing and Crager SS rims. rear tire- 255x70 R15 Firestone. There is 11" of clearance in the rear wheel fender wells. A 10" wide tire would have appropriately a 1/2 ' to spare on each side if center correctly. Rear axle width will dictate backspacing. My rear axle came from a 91 Explorer.

I have the same sized tires on my pickup and went with 8" on the back and 7" on front

I have about the same set-up but with 16 inch wheels. So the tire bulge will be different, but not by much. A lot depends on tire manufacturer. I went with the less bulge approach.
If you want to have all the same rims, the 7 inch is best.
Otherwise 7 inch front, 8 inch rear is a good choice for staying within specs and minimizing tire bulge.
Work out backspacing to make sure that you get the look you want (and of course fit properly).

This is also what I have on my truck. Same rear tire width but a little narrower fronts. Works perfect and looks good.

Thanks for the responses everyone. My axle is a Dana 44 and I should have 1/8" between the edge of the tire and the fender lip with a 255 on a 15x8 with 4.5" of backspace. It has mono leafs so the top of the tire should be just buried.
