Ohbrian, that would be so cool.No more leaking hoses or the whine some of them give. And no drag on the engine either. We don't have any pick a part type yards around here,so I'm sure the column called for would be a bit more pricey.S'pose you'll need to get used to the Saturn logo on the horn pad tho. Good luck on that.
Intriguing.... but as I mentioned on a previous thread, I had a '06 Saturn and the EPS was failing on it at 30k miles. I spoke to the tech in depth about it, he said there were lots of plastic parts in load-bearing areas, and they were failing under warranty left and right. No option but to replace the entire unit, at $1000 for the parts (from GM). Maybe someone will start supplying the parts?
My concern for using this with our trucks was the note in the writeup that this unit was not strong enough for vehicles like the Silverado truck and Mustang. That was the same assertion I got when I explored the possibility of using the unit out of the Mini Cooper.

I think they use it in the newer f-150's though. I remember reading that the electric steering was a reason they didnt make a snow plow package for the f-150.
Sounds to me like it would solve the problem of putting a steering rack on a solid front axle. I think these things will become real popular once the word gets out and kits get on the market.
Its mostly only little cars that have the assist built into the column. The bigger stuff like the trucks have it built into the rack itself but it doubles the size of the rack.

Anyone used this on a midfifftys truck. It looks kind of big , to fit under the dash . I would like to see pictures of one installed.
Gee, I hope not!
Please read the entire article, the assisted steering column shaft is NOT strong enough for the weight of a truck. Shades of people putting in an original Pinto IFS...
