so i dug around here for awhile to ensure i wasn't reposting something that someone already hit on....then got impatient. heres the deal...
my '88 Bronco has been sitting for a few years due to me being gone with multiple deployments. before her long sit i rebuilt the motor (5.8) and tranny (c6), and put in a bunch of new random stuff (to include starter and starter solenoid). i was piecing her all back together and i go to fire her up and nothing. theres no click of the solenoid either. i manually crossed the solenoid and she fires right up and will stay running with key forward. so back to the no start... the radio and etc cut out when i turn the key all the way forward to start like it normally would but theres something between the ignition switch and the solenoid i'm thinking. i wiggled around the park lever to N and just in general and still nothing, i went down and tapped on the neutral safety switch (in case something was possibly just sticking or whathaveyou from sitting for 5 years) and still nothing. what else is in there as far as switches or anything that would keep the solenoid from engaging? thanks so much!
sounds like a cable on the solenoid isnt hooked up correctly. i did this recently also just can not recall. i believe the power from battery and starter cable may be backwards on yours.
Get an assist and check for power at solenoid wire with key turned to start position. No power there means it's not solenoid. Then follow that wire back to firewall and check for power there.
