where did you get them?

Iv'e been searching and lookin' for a shop manual for my 48 F4.Found several on LMC and such but it seems that most go from 32 or so to 47.Then 49 to 56. Barnes and Noble didn't really have much either. Then there is the wheel cylinders for my truck. And I'm wondering about the dual master cylinder for it also. Bein' a noob to these trucks is kind of a pain for me since this is my first one.I really appreciate all the help you folks have given me so far.I found brake shoe linings at Job Lot. Kinda spendy but I guess I'll save some on shipping the shoes somewhere. Everytime I look at my truck I see somethin' else that needs to be done before I can use it as intended.I guess the resto. part will come eventually.Got an issue with the drivers door pillar that I hadn't seen before too.Not to mention the rims.Tryin' to find some locally so I don't have so much shipping to pay. Oh well, gotta keep on keepin' on.Thanks guys.

The 49-51 is same as 48. They are commonly on eBay. Stu

Not really sure why the manual only say's 49-51 with the 52 Supplement. I would say that manual is also for the 48, just not sure why they don't say so?
someone that's into the 48-50's more than me might have an answer for you but all the parts interchange with 48-50 so you should be just fine with that manual I would think?

Stu and Josh are correct - the 48-49-50's were very similar mechanically. Where there are differences, the Shop Manual provides guidance on differences - carbs, voltage regulators, and such.

Brake linings: look here as Joe does his parking brake in days to come:

And here's a discussion that encouraged him to try. Yes, I'm an enabler.

One would think that with the 1948 trucks being all new, Ford would have had a manual for them. And they probably did. The 49-51 book was the last manual released by Ford, and in '52 they only printed a supplement to cover the new OHV engines for that year, since the truck was otherwise a complete carryover from the previous year. Later reprints put the two parts together and that's what you see offered by the aftermarket. Maybe ND Bill can shed some light on the mysterious disappearance of 1948, someday.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.Iv'e gotten some manuals before for a 69 sportster that were like that. I can feel better about spending the $$ on one now. I think I looked at the post on linings, thats what made me want to do it myself. The parking brake could be a little tougher tho.I'll have to review the thread again when it comes time. I'm so glad you all are willing to help us noobs, I'd be strugglin' without ya. Thanks.

Thanks ND, I checked those two sites out and the parts cd seems most impressive from what they said on the website thingy there.I'll certainly be gettin' one of those.Take it down to my local NAPA when I go to get parts. The other one had the manual I was eyeballing too.Still makes me wonder if the year 1948 ever existed.HaHa. Maybe everyone who thinks they are 65 are actually 64 or 66.Maybe it's a conspiracy thing.I dunno. But in any event I'll be snaggin' them both shortly. Remember back in the day when ya got a new comic book?, Mine was usually a Mad magazine ,had to read it front to back rite away.Thats me when these two finally make it to my house. Thanks again guys and Merry Christmas!

Maybe you'll pick up on HOW to read the Parts Manual faster than I did. I needed private tutoring from Bill Number Dummy!

Now, I can usually find a part number pretty fast, but it took me a while.

Merry Christmas!
