Ok men, I finally got the duallies off the drivers side tonight. Once it fell off the beast I could see I was turning in the wrong direction the whole time. That is why it was a painful experience for every 1/8 inch turn. Good thing we had a 4' pipe wrench at work and I'm nimble enough to stand on the end of fit.
Anyway, moving ever forward, I am wondering about some advice regarding the correct shop manual or service manual which would guide me through a thorough rebuilding of the brakes, hubs, bearing , etc. I'm willing to change everything I can purchase without going broke, over the course of several paychecks...
Can anyone suggest what manual I might purchase form the usual sources of Macs or Carpenter or whomever??
Thank you

The question really is, which manual is best suited for my truck?? there seems to be a bunch of vintage manuals. I see some folks use the original parts manuals as reference, which is very cool for the exploded views and part numbers, which numbers many still refer to. And then there are actual shop manuals which will walk one through the process...
I just ordered online the Ford-Mercury shop manual 1942 to 1948. I'm just not sure that's the right one, or enough info....

That's the manual I have, its a reprint of the Canadian shop manual. Its a good one, the same used by the dealership when these trucks were new. There isn't a whole lot of stuff for the big trucks, that manual is probably the best.

Thank you, Gary. I did order that one, the one with the green cover. I got the flathead running just yesterday. Coil was bad. Mac sent me a cracked one, which I sent back. Dragged the whole affair out. I'll start on the brake overhaul as I dial the v8 in a little better...
Thanks for the heads-up!
