Has anyone rebuilt or built (performance) there injection pumps? I havent tore into one yet but since I have everything aparts (heads) I might get my injectors built by our local deisel shop. And was wondering about the IP
Too many high-precision measurements and whatnot to do it yourself. Quite literally impossible to do a proper rebuild without the correct tools. About the only thing you could do for yourself is to do a re-seal, and that won't help anything for performance.
Oh, and while I'm at it, there's no such thing as a performance injector for an IDI. They don't work that way. They just open when they reach the pressure they're set for, and close when the pressure is gone. All the fuel through them is controlled by the injection pump. And all the fuel pressure to the injectors is supplied by the injection pump. One last thing... to do a proper rebuild on IDI injectors, will cost more than a brand new set of them.
You can't trust hardly any diesel shops out there these days because they just don't know what they're doing with an IDI. They're designed to work on the newer diesels. Some are good, most aren't. Not saying that your local shop is no good, but there are known, trustworthy people out there with extremely high quality parts and customer satisfaction.
