I recently picked up a clapped out 1960 ranchero. Might be a fun project.
The PO mentioned needing to find some more 6 volt bulbs for the tail light,
This may sound dumb but shouldn't this year be 12 v?
I used my volt meter and the battery shows 12.6
The starter cylenoid looks like the ones on all the other older fords I've had.
Any one know for sure?
since these cars are pretty simple, the only thing a 12 volt battery would do is ruin the generator.
i have starter old 6 volt cars with 12 volts many times.
and have also used 2 12 volt batteries hooked in series to make 24 volts to fire up an old chrysler that had a starter decide to almost lock up 30 miles from home at 6pm sunday night.
Putting a 12 volt battery in a 6 volt car. You would probably burn up the gas gauge, all the 6 volt light bulbs, radio, coil, condensor, maybe the regulator and I think sense the generator doesn't have any diodes or electronics in it you probably wouldn't hurt it. But if you are going to convert ot over to 12 volt anyway go for it . The starter doesn't care
