After double checking what Antonio advised trying, my truck now also reads my iphone 4s texts to me, after notifying a new message has arrived!!

But not everything is gravy, for some weird reason, it always shows the contact as UNKNOWN even they they're coming from contacts in my phonebook

So I can't reply to them. A step further, I now get "message sent successfully" pop-ups when I choose a contact in my phonebook and send them one of those generic "call me" messages, but they never receive it

EO- are you able to reply to those texts? And your contact comes up correctly?

Not a huge deal, since I don't plan on using the capability much, but I'm continuing to follow this thread in case someone figures it out.

It seems like the MFT system is able to access and interpret messages with with the iPhone, but the iOS firmware doesn't let SYNC's commands go through - therefore sent messages aren't successful. This is a behavior we're currently monitoring and seems to be the case across the board. I'll spread the word if anything changes with the next iOS release or some sort of workaround is developed.
The best thing to do when your texting functionality is partial is to ensure your phone has the strongest possible connection with SYNC. There aren't any settings to change that would directly effect this, other than verifying that the Notifications preference in your iPhone Bluetooth menu are enabled. Try performing a clean pairing by removing SYNC from your phone, then removing the phone from SYNC, then reconnecting. You could soft reset the iPhone by holding down the home button and the power button down for about 9 seconds until Apple logo appears. These measures will ensure your phone has the strongest signal, therefore clearest channel, to communicate with SYNC.
As I mentioned above, partial texting capabilities seem to be commonplace among iPhones these days - which is still progress, considering the devices never worked to begin with upon initial release. My team will continue to track any trends and movements among other users in hopes of developing a means to get the iPhone working reliably with this feature.

http://support.ford.com/sync-technol...touchAttention, iPhone users! We’re happy to announce that SYNC can now read your text messages aloud to you while you're driving. Please note, to use this feature you must be running your SYNC with MyFord Touch system on software version 3.5.
If your iPhone is running a more recent version of iOS 6 (e.g., 6.1.3), it may support this new text messaging capability without requiring much set-up effort. First, follow the steps below to see if your iPhone can work with SYNC to read your text messages aloud.

I can shed some light on this one. The workarounds currently in place allow for the iPhones to share partial functionality with the texting feature, but as it currently stands it doesn't seem they offer consistent performance when sending text messages. This is subject to change with the release of the next iOS version, but we'll have to wait and see.

However, I don't use the text features when driving. Although it could be useful.
My problem with the i-phone is more with Apple. The battery can not be disconnected by the user and whether the i-phone is off or on, Apple tracks where you are and sells it to business to track your habits. Something I strongly feel against. For this reason I will opt out of the i-phones until they change their policy. I have nothing to hide but don't like "Big Brother" snooping where it has no right to.

CR3T-14D544-AC; version GEN1-V4.0.2
this is what the truck was built with; I can't enable the text messaging for my new iPhone.
I have a subscription to motorcraftservice.com and it looks to me as if Gen1 - 4.2.1.4 is available and lists the following enhancements:
- Updated Bluetooth device connectivity
- Improved system stability
- Improved media player functionality
- Enhanced voice recognition capabilities
- Optimized for use with Apple iOS 6 for incoming text messaging
This update includes improvements from all previous SYNC updates such as flattened phone grammar, improvements in device indexing, text messaging capabilities with the implementation of message access profile (MAP), and more. For additional information on previous updates, visit SYNCmyride.com.
SYNCmyride.com will not offer me any update; how can I update my truck?
PM left for Antonio with my VIN......

I thought my 3.2.5 was the "newest"!
Syncmyride also didn't show an update available for my truck, Bob, but I called the customer service and was given that there was in fact an update available, so I swung by the local dealer and told 'em to update it.
They did, but there's been a glitch ever since, I've been trying to find time and info to get it back to 'em, and like you, I can't download the update from syncmyride because it shows my truck up to date.
But if you call 'em you might be told something different, I took that info to my dealer and said "do it"
and they were able to.Long gone are the days when the dealer was the be-all end-all source of info for that given vehicle, and I'm not knocking 'em, it's just, the technology age.... we can gain access to info they may not know about unless we shine the light on it for 'em.
But I've about had it with my current SYNC glitch, so I lit a fire under 'em earlier today, hopefully I'll have some better news in a few days
No reply back on the PM to Ford that I left; maybe on vacation this week.
I will ultimately go to dealer if I can't get an upgrade over the internet to a USB stick.
Good luck with your issues.
Bob
