I went ahead and assumed my 1993 f-150 had a flat tappet cam in it since it had the old 302 firing order and was speed density BUT..... pulled motor today and took off the lower intake and found the spider and the dog bones bolted on in the valley. That automatically means its a roller engine correct? This is the cam I ordered from summit. 31-255-5 - COMPUTER CONTROLLED Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft for E.F.I.
I already ordered the damn flat tappet lifters too and they get here tomorrow! What the hell do I do now? Any opinions?!
Damn it!, anyway to make the flat tappet cam work in my roller motor?! What modifications do I have to do?! I am going a step backwards... well it might seem like it but I picked that cam because its way better than stock and its computer compatible with speed density and has the old 302 firing order. What is involved in taking a backwards step and making the roller engine a flat tappet?!
I believe the push rods I'm not exactly sure. Your screen name looks familiar I haven't been around in awhile ext cab swb green f150 tuned your puter to beat a chebbie a guy you knew had?
LOL yes I think I even had you as a friend on FB don't know what happened after my fiance deleted some of my friends tho haha
And OMG But what do I do about my old firing order?! All cams that I see on summit that are roller have the HO/351w firing order! I have the worst luck ever. In other words I have a roller block that's a non-HO with an old firing order!
Yup. Go to jegs and search for lubati voodoo cams they are bad ***. If you want me back on fb maroku2010@yahoo.com but you defiantly have a roller motor
Ok do any of you know what is required to make a roller block with roller lifters a flat tappet motor again?! I am low on funds don't want to go thru the hassle of returning stuff and school will start soon again so there is no time to waste at all! Thanks!
Need longer pushrods. 6.887 is length needed. You won't have to use the spider tray or dogbones. Be sure to coat the lifter faces well with moly lube, comp cam lube, some type of high quality break in lube. Be sure that the lifters can rotate in the bore. Use the old 302 firing order.
Also you will have to change distributor cam gear. The one you have now is steel, and will chew the flat tappet cam up. Need a cast iron cam gear for the dizzy.
If you have patience, wait and return to get a roller cam.
He has a strict dead line the dizzys are diffrent as well I've got good push rods and a brand new dizzy I'm going to send him are the rockers different as well?
