The 77 F250 has eaten starters since I can remember. My dad had to replace it so many times. My son has replace it 3 times in the last 6 months. Any one have the same problem or any ideas!!
I had the same issue with my 79 460. I don't have headers but the factory starter didn't like starting the motor after it had ran awhile. I got a high torque MSD mini starter and the problem was solved.
I don't think anyone can offer any suggestions until "eating starters" is clarified. Is the starter grinding, slow to turn, doesn't turn at all, etc? How do you guys know what problem you're solving?
Again, please describe what "stops working" means. Does this mean it grinds, or spins freely without engaging the ring gear or flywheel? Telling us the bendix doesn't work is what you believe to be the failure mechanism but doesn't describe any of the actual symptoms that could explain why the bendix doesn't work.
I'd assume that'd mean it doesn't pop out and engage the flywheel, just spins. Could be the shaft getting dirty or crudded up with junk. Live in a dirty/dusty environment?
