4x4 problem........

Got some snow this weekend and had to use the 4wd, I was excited because I just bought this bada$$ bronco. As I was driving I noticed the truck had slipped into neutral. I can stop put in 2wd or dis and re engage 4wd and it drives until I get going to what ever speed it kicks it out of gear at. It wont do this at all in 2wd, only 4x4. Any thoughts?

I'm only thinking that I'm glad that this has never happened to my 1990 5.0L AOD transmission, BW1356 transfer case manual hub equipped Bronco.

That's all I know about it, but I'll think on it, and get back to you.

What kind of Bronco are we thinking about? Are you in 4L or 4H?
Manual hubs or automatic? so many unknowns, ouch, it hurts, must stop now.

I had this happen on an old Chevy I had only it would pop out in 24 as well as 4x4.

The shift forks were worn out & couldn't hold.

We need to know what year Bronco...trans......transfer case. If you have a 78-79 Bronco.....it sounds like the shifting fork for the transfer case. Either the ends of the forks themselves are worn or where it mounts to the shaft. There is a roll pin that holds the fork to the shaft or the shaft itself can be worn where it slides. Either one is fairly easy to repair and parts are readily available.

If its a newer Bronco, we gotta know more info!

Alright sorry for lack of info, its an 89 as far as the t-case goes, ive gotta crawl underneath and get some numbers off of it. Its got a 302 with manual lock hubs and an auto trans. I will get the other info asap, I really appreciate all this good advice. Thanks so much.

Is it slipping out on the transmission or the transfer case?
