Then what I mean I'm trying to fix it myself what's removing the ft driveline gonna do for me. It's fine most of the time but has gotten more
Frequent it's grinding like a lot of peoples same problem goin down the hwy and just suddenly starts grinding pull over shut it down start up and away you go no grinding I can't find anything on how the four wheel works on 2003 ranger xlt not even in the repair manual. Very frustrating
What do you know about your truck? What size engine, what transmission, what transfer case? Care to share any relevant information? What have you tried so far? What manual are you looking at? The Ford Service Manual is THE source for solutions and troubleshooting steps.
Ford ranger xlt has the 4.0 with the 5 speed auto tranny not sure of maker but has a Borg transfer . Haynes manual I know it sucks . But anyway I've looked at my vac lines don't see visible damage blow with mouth on lines don't and they seem fine holding my pressure but yeah it should be vac pressure tested but the systems I've seen show vac lines to the hubs mine does not have that so I'm wondering what it telling it to go in to go 4wheel on the hwy road whatever but it does it on its own freakish grinding noise I've done a lot of reading posts online all even the dealer say it trying to go into 4 wheel . I don't know man but I read something about scratch marks around the driveshaft like something got rapped around it well I have those scratches but nothing got tangled and I know that .. help
Your '03 Ranger 4WD system doesn't use vacuum, so it has to be some sort of mechanical or electrical issue. Do any of the dash lights blink or stay on when the problem is occurring?
Are you sure it's the 4WD that's trying to engage?
Assuming your Ranger has the electronic transfer case, here's how the 4WD system works on your '03 Ranger (same as '02):
Thanks rockledge for your comment . No the dash lights don't do anything when this happens but I noticed the speedo jumped around the sensor for that I'm told is at the transfer case but I don't know if this would be causing it or not. The noise goes along with the speed of the truck in other words it slows when I slow the truck down stops when I stop and if I shut the truck off start it up and go its fine again. The sound is like cards in spokes bbbbbzzzzz but has a metal to metal sound my tyranny is kinda shiftin a little off it seems and when I stop and go it kinda shutter drags a little. Still lookin for answers .or waitin till somethin really fails and then I'll know huh lol not funny but. So your friends truck off I've read things like reset module button on it so I've read but it may not apply to your buddy's truck . How bout the shift motor. Fuses . Etc . I've read like a bad starter sometimes tap on em and it will engage hence bad motor. U prob know all that stuff but just thought ide lay it on ya . Take any suggestion you may have on my problem back .talkin bout it gets ya thinkin hmmm. :-)
