stalling sometimes when steering

stalling sometimes when steering

A couple of times over the last couple of weeks, my V10 E350 has stalled when turning. Today my wife was turning and the van just cut out on her. I have no idea why it would only happen during this time.

Any ideas?

At first glance, I would guess the IAC. The idle air control valve adjusts the throttle as needed based on engine load.

I am assuming you mean stalling when making slow speed turns like into a driveway.

You can sometimes pull them and clean them. I would consider just replacing.

Is the computer throwing any codes?

info

No check engine light that I remember but will have to check again when it does it. Where is the IAC?

I am not 100 percent sure, but it should be behind the intake. You probably need to remove the dog house to get at it.

picture of an IAC on a 2005 Ford E350

Anyone have a picture that shows where the IAC should be? I have the engine cover off inside the van and do not see it anywhere.

I haven't looked yet, but I will be soon. Generally speaking, the IAC will be mounted right at the throttle body where the throttle plate is located. It's probably easier to get at from the front of the engine, though you'll have to remove the air box, air filter, and air inlet tube leading from the air box to the throttle body. Remove all that, clean the throttle body, remove the IAC, clean the IAC passages and clean or replace the IAC valve.

The IAC is on the back of the cast aluminum intake, has a 1" hose connected to the top of it, it's mounted upright, is a cylindrical silver thing that you can't miss, I did mine years ago, my van would stall when starting repeatedly, wouldn't stay running.

Is the CEL illuminated? Typically if the IAC is the problem it will show up with a DTC.

I've replaced and/or serviced a few IAC's and they're much much easier to access with the dog house removed. They are indeed located on the driver's side, look pretty much like Maples describes.

Don't waste your time trying to clean one that is bad or shows failure. Its nothing more than a short term fix, the same issues returning in the short term once again.

Use either Ford or Motorcraft or at least the better parts from NAPA. Try Rockauto.com or Amazon for Ford/MC stuff.

removing parts

When you say to remove the doghouse do you mean the whole front end or are you talking about the engine cover inside the passenger compartment?

I just don't know why I cannot find it.

"Doghouse" would be the interior engine cover. Oddly enough removing all the front sheet metal still wouldn't let you spot it from that position.

Here's what the IAC looks like: http://www.justanswer.com/ford/35cin...-out-when.html Disregard the topic/vehicle discussed in that link---linking it to show how the IAC appears.

Once the doghouse is removed view the engine from the driver's side, preferably standing outside the van. Look towards the back of the engine, up top and just to the rear of the throttle body. Refer to the photo above and look for something looking exactly like what's shown---bingo!

You're think to yourself, "self--'twere a snake it'd bit me, 'twere an elephant it woulda stepped on me!"
