Heater core

I recently fixed my heater panel controls and blower motor speed switch. Now I can smell the undeniable stink of antifreeze. I had planned to change it out, but wanted to make it through the winter.
In my internet searches I have run across some heater cores that boast Hi-output. Has anyone had any experience with these? Are they the same thing and just trying to cash in on calling it HO?

Greg, They are less than 30 bucks new, check your local parts house chain for your truck to see if both are available. I think one is slightly larger than the other. You may be able to fix it with a torch & a little solder. You should have it swapped out in under an hour.

If your truck leaks as much air as mine does adding a second would not make a heck of a lot of difference.

When I rebuilt my cooling/heating system my trusted supplier strongly recommended it. No regrets...especially for the couple extra dollars

Thanks for the info guys. I just wanted to make sure there was a difference and not just a gimmick.
I will check around the local chains and see what is available.

I'd get the bigger one, if available. Lord knows mine only got HOT in the summer time LOL!!! Get on the highway in the winter and you could just feel the heat disappear.

Lucky they are VERY easy to replace. Way easier then any new vehicle for sure. Hand full of small screws and it comes right out under the dash.

FYI, I think there is a little difference in the size, and not sure the larger one will fit. Check it out.

You might check on the dimensions Greg. Maybe just core thickness so the bigger one will fit. Ford only lists one for heater and one for the factory A/C box.

Well, I have checked all the local places and no one even lists an HO version. I will go with the standard locally since it has a lifetime warranty. Thanks for all the info guys.

Rockauto.com lists the different size cores with dimensions and pictures. I'm waiting to pull the core out of my '81 to see what size it is and if the larger core will fit before ordering a new one.

I know that I can order the larger one. For me I would rather deal with local for warranty reasons. Especially if it is ever to fail and need replacement.

Also the local part is only $20 with a lifetime warranty. The ones online seem to have at best a 2 year.

Greg. Carefull of that cheap one. A few girlfriends ago had an aftermarket cheap heater core she had bought before meeting me for her 1991 F150. It also had a lifetime warranty. I installed it kicking and bucking. That thing was SO cheesey it was unreal. I knew it wouldn't last a year. The hose tubes were not brazed in. They were o-ring sealed and held in with some real thin barely crimped over collars. And I was right. Good thing that heater core is super easy to change!

Greg. Interesting findings with the Ford number. Running on Bill's lead I see his D3TZ H.D. Dent number is the same as a Bump's standard heater core. He mentioned That Dent number replaced C5TZ18472B and C7TZ18476A.
C5TZ18476B......factory heater... 65/66 F100/F250
C7TZ18476A......factory heater (non-A/C) ..67/72 F100/750

I am just explaining it differently than him. So the Dent's standard heater core must have been smaller than a Bump's.
