I'm looking to swap my worn out c6 in my 1989 f250 for a e40d I picked up for next to nothing it came out of a 89 also I know my drive shaft will have to be replaces and I need to round up some wireing and other electronics from th junk yard any one know what all I will have to get thanks
I wonder what you'd do for the VSS? Does the '89 have an electric speedometer? If so you might have one already. Otherwise I'd think you'd need a rear end with the VSS in it. Of course you'll need the TPS and the ECM + wiring. I'm pretty sure '89 had the OD rocker switch on the dash so you might get away from having to change your column for the OD switch/light.
From what I've read here it's way easier to get an aftermarket controller rather than try to wire it up factory, but it's supposed to be very price too.
Then there's the obvious hardware, flexplate/flywheel, maybe the cross member, torque converter (although it might be a good idea to install a new TQ while you have the tranny out.)
In 89 it was an option so if you find a similar truck it's basically a bolt in job.
As for the wiring you will need the throttle position sensor and the little adaptor in the injection pump. I got my after market controller from The US Shift Transmission Control System. They programed the controller, built made wiring harnesses for 700 bucks. if was fairly simple to install. The program to change the **** tables is kind of hard to figure out at first. I run mine off the abs sensor in the rear end
