Removing the Air Pump.
I want to remove the Air Pump and all of the associated plumbing except what is absolutely necessary.
I have another thread in my group and one reply stated that my fuel mileage will decrease.
I am currently installing a new exhaust system starting with pacesetter shorty headers into a y-pipe through a Hi-Flow Catalytic Converter (no air tubing) with an Inco 12" Glass Pack finally terminating at the rear bumper with a Stainless Steel tip. From collector to tailpiece will be 2.5".
What is your view on this decrease of mpg?
Thank you.

The AIR system also helps the catalytic converter do its job, so removing it will also make emissions worse.
And there is a factory plug for the back of the head, if you are wanting to get rid of the pipe that crosses between the heads on the back.
There are a ton of rigs that don't have air pumps to the cat . And they work just fine.
The big deal is if your state , or the jurisdiction you live , has a smog inspection that this vehicle is not exempt from .

I see a problem in that their is so much that is not needed on an engine. It is just if you have this then this is also required including vacuum hoses.
Geez, you can hardly get your hand in some places.
I have been provided with a wealth of knowledge from this forum and after "putting it all together" will install a Hi-Flow Cat without air tube.
I bought a 1974 new 3/4 Ton truck and I use to sit on the wheel well INSIDE the engine compartment.
Take care

P.S. There are a lot of "schools for thought" so it is up to the owner as to what mods he or she wants to do.

What is a HEGO system and do you think that my 87 5.0L has it?
I am purchasing a Hi-Flow Cat without air tube. The current Cats remove hydrocarbons very well and further more are better than stock. This is my personal view of course.
All of the plumbing is unnecessary in these engines in my view so I will just eliminate it.
If it does not improve the performance and efficiency then I will just reinstall it.

If you have an EFI and not a Carburator, then you hava a HEGO.
