Unhappy which size clutch

Howdy all,
I'm stuck and I'm hoping you fellas can help bail me out. I own a '90 F-150 with a 4.9l. It has the Mazda 5 speed tranny in it. My problem is I need to know whether it's got a 10" or 11" clutch in it before I drop the tranny. Is there any way of indentifying the size of this clutch? The parts store isn't far off, but taking two kids on the walk makes it real long!
Thanks an bundle,
-John R.

I don't know of any good way to tell what size clutch you have unless you are real good at identifying them through the inspection cover. However, I would suggest going with an 11" anyway irregardless of what you currently have in it. If you buy the 11" and you truck happends to have the 11" your all set. And if you buy the 11" but your truck has a 10", all you will need is a new set of screws (there is 5 or 6 of them) that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel. I can't remember exactly what size is needed however. Very minor. Going with an 11" will substancially increase your clutch life, strength, and grip; and all for the same price as the 10" kit.

The parts store said an 11" may not fit into the housing of a 10" stock size clutch. The only reason their idea made any sence was Ford's use of misc. sized front springs for these trucks.
I'm game to try using different hardware. Anybody got a clue as to what works? This ole trucks gotta get me to the parts. Then I plan on hitting it over the 4th.
Thanks,

John
The 10 or 11 either one will work in your truck. Your flywheel is drilled to accept either clutch. The 11 will be a little heavier duty than the 10. Luk also makes a heavy duty 11" Pro Gold clutch for your truck. Let me know if I can answer any additional questions.

Right On Mr. Clutch!!!

John Go with the 11" and make sure you get the bolt set for it as the bolts for the 11" are bigger than the 10". I have always suggested this upgrade to my customers because the cost difference is minimal but the torque capacity is much greater.

Smile which size clutch

Thanks Guys! I'll darn sure go with the 11" then since it'll bolt in. Any clue what size bolts will be needed? I can get them cheeper than the local parts store. I've just gotta know what size. Shoot, if nothing else, a couple miles won't hurt these boys too awful much. We all did it when we were younger. Up hill both ways, right?
Thanks again!
