Fuel sending unit question

Hello again now I have a fuel question does anybody know where to find a fuel sending unit for my 1978 f150 sb rear tank that has a 3/8 inch output instead of 5/16. I was told since im going with 400 horse motor I need to get more fuel to the motor or ill run out when I floor it.

Who told you that bit iof information? I have never heard that before.

Have you called your local part stores and asked if they have different output hose size sending units?

The OEM sending unit is supposed to be 3/8 inch in the first place. Any sending unit you find with a 5/16-inch outlet is a reproduction error. Dorman sending units suffer from such an error. The sending unit I got from DC had the correct outlet size.

The guy at the parts store told me. Small town what can I say. The only sending unit he could get was 5/16 unless I get one for a mustang there 3/8 but nobody knows if it will work with the tank I have. May be I will have to talk to the local ford dealership and get one directly from them. I will also try and google dc and see if I can find one as well. Ok what does dc stand for. And also if it matters im using a 19 gallon rear tank its a 1978 f150 shortbox 2wd.

These aren't hard to find at all. Assuming you have the standard 19-gallon tank, this is the sending unit you need:

I also recommend upgrading the float:

As I said before, the OEM sending unit is supposed to be 3/8". Forget all this nonsense about some "specialty" size that you were supposedly told about. You can surely find a sending unit cheaper through Rock Auto or just about any parts store, but as I mentioned, you run the risk of it being 5/16" (which, again, is wrong).

I bought the Spectra sender (on the right) along with a new 19 gallon tank and realized the hose outlet on the sending unit was the wrong size when I got it home.
I ordered the correct sender with a 3/8 outlet from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard (on the left) and it is better quality all the way around.
