i am working on my neighbors explorer that he just picked up. no 4x4 hi, low, auto. 4x4 hi light flashes about 10 times after start. we have chacked all fuses and relays could this be a bad clutch? and can this be replaced or is it better to swap in a good t/c?
shifts into 4 low but the front wheels don't spin ( clutch not engaging)
I was told to replace the transfer case motor if not change ur control module..I have the same problem with but haven't be able to fix it since I'm not a mechanic..
Honestly, most of the folks on this forum are probably not mechanics. Not being "mechanical" is a different situation though....
You could remove your transfer case motor and change the switch setting to see if the motor moves. If not, then check for voltage on the motor when switching settings to see if you have voltage. If you have voltage but the motor doesn't move, the issue is probably the transfer case motor. If you don't have voltage, then connect your meter or test light to a known good ground and try again. If this time you measure voltage, then you might have a ground issue such as what was mentioned in post #3 above. If with a known good ground you still don't have voltage to the motor when switching modes, the control module might be the issue. I have read about more transfer case motor issues on these than control modules.
