I had a bad leak from the bellhousing, the front seal had fluid build up around/in it so I changed it (viton) and reinstalled. Test drove last night and it is still leaking just not as bad. I read that the bushing is usually what is leaking? I didnt change the bushing, didn't really look at it other than to notice it was installed.
I know how to install a seal but...apparently something isn't right. Is there somthing that is fairly common that causes them to keep leaking? Is there something that people usually do wrong upon doing this front seal change? I know I have pull the trans again even though I really, REALLY dont want to but once I get it pulled, what should I look for?
Thank you all for your help with my trans...AGAIN!
Bushings don't seal things, they're designed to allow oil to flow in and around them since that's what keeps them lubed. The seal keeps the oil inside the bushing/rest of the transmission. If the bushing gets worn or was installed wrong, then it can allow excessive play in the shaft which tears up the seal, causing a leak.
Or, the seal could've just been damaged somewhere along the way.
Did you lube it before installing the torque converter?

Yeah about the bushings, I was confused when I read that because I know the difference between a bushing and a seal and purpose for each. I did lube it but, before I go any further, I am sorry to have wasted your time.
I found the leak and it is not coming from the bell housing....it is one of the trans cooler lines---thank you God in heaven. I know when I looked under the truck and saw a fast dripping I assumed it was what I had been working on but...I was a separate issue!!
So, now I have located about where the leak is, a break in the line I suppose now I just have to pinpoint it and replace the line or that section of line.
Thanks Dixie and again, I apologize for wasting your time!

Don't sweat it, I don't consider a couple minutes to type a post a waste of my time... for the few years that a post stays in history on a forum, it just might help someone else doing a search.
