I changed the fuel injectors on my 96 ford ranger 3 liter. When disasembling the fuel rails, there was No pressure in them. Now when starting the truck it kind of stumbles, setc then it runs fine. I was wondering if theres a valve someplace to hold that pressure? Yes the truck was tough to sart before, and i got tired of running injector cleaner.
Have you performed a KOEO & KOER fuel pressure test & delivery rate over time, with your fuel pressure gauge connected at the fuel rail schrader valve test port, if so, post up the numbers????
The fuel system is equipped with check valve(s) to insure there is fuel available at the injectors from startup. The pump will run to pressurize 'that' fuel. If it leaks back through the pump check valve or the return check valve, you will be able to know that by cycling the ignition from OFF to ON to OFF several times, and then trying to start the engine.
Later models (I don't know exact year) are 'returnless', so the only check valve is in the fuel pump.
There is a specification in the shop manual for pressure 'hold time' considered acceptable. My take is that if it holds pressure for 5 minutes or so, then you don't have a leaky injector or check valve. If the pressure immediately starts to drop after the pump is de-powered, there is a problem. Personal opinion.
