I ordered an extra sensor, it's floating around the truck somewhere in one of the many stash places. I will probably remember where I put it when I need it, hopefully won't. May or may not be the best $30 bucks I've ever spent or not, worth the piece of mind until it's time to "Delete" all that crap...
WELL MY WORST FEARS CAME TRUE TODAY, HEADED FOR A THREE DAY VACATION AT THE DEER LEASE GET 100 MILES FROM HOME AND GET THE STOP SAFLEY NOW SCREEN FOLLOWED BY MY TRUCK SHUTTING DOWN. LUCKILY I WAS GOING THROUGH DIBOL AND ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. I HAD A CEL COME ON TWO DAYS AGO AND HAD STOPPED BY AUTO ZONE AND GOT THE CODE READ. MY TRUCK WAS SHOWING P242A WHICH I DISCOVERED WAS EGT SENSOR THREE IN BANK 1. I FIGURED I COULD FIX THE TRUCK WHEN I GOT BACK FROM HUNTING BUT BOY WAS I WRONG. TWO HOURS WAITING FOR MY BUDDY TO BRING A SENSOR TO ME FROM HOUSTON AND AFTER LOCATING SENSOR NUMBER 3, TRUCK WOULD STILL NOT START. GOT A CODE READER FROM AUTO ZONE AND TRIED TO CLEAR CODES BUT CODE WOULD NOT CLEAR. FINALLY MY BUDDY READ ON A FORUM AND WE TRIED GROUNDING THE STARTER. TRUCK TURNED OVER AND AFTER THAT I WAS ABLE TO START TRUCK WITH KEY, CODES CLEARED AND CEL WENT OFF. NOW SEVERAL HOURS LATE FOR MY DATE WITH SOME DEER AND FEARING MY TRUCK WOULD DIE AGAIN I SIT ON MY COUCH TYPING THIS THREAD.
ANYBODY ELSE HAVE A SIMILAR STORY?? LETS GET THEM POSTED HERE AND SEE HOW MANY WE CAN GET. MAYBE JUST MAYBE THOSE IDIOTS WHO DECIDED A FAULTY $50 SENSOR SHOULD SHUT DOWN A $60,000 TRUCK WILL HELP US OUT WITH A SOLUTION. MAYBE UDATE COMPUTER TO NOT SHUT DOWN UNTIL TWO SENSORS ARE READING HIGH TEMPS....... JUST A THOUGHT FROM A NEW MEMBER... I LOVE MY TRUCK 2011 LARIAT F250 TUXEDO BLACK...JUST PISSED IT COST ME A HUNTING TRIP
Welcome to FTE!
Sorry about your truck issues. Most folks wind up on a forum somewhere because they had an issue what ever they bought or want to learn more about what they plan on buying. I hope you stick round and learn and help all of us learn about why we're here. There's a lot of good people here.
I want to chime in on this. If ya'll don't know the DFW area had an arctic blast blanket our metroplex with ice. I didn't add any anti-gel or plug my truck in on thursday night. Needless to say the next morning (Friday) I fired my new '13 up, let it warm up for about 5 minutes, and went about my day happily driving BECAUSE NOTHING BAD HAPPENED TO MY TRUCK AND I AM PLEASED WITH MY PURCHASE!!! Just had to vent...thanks
Speaking for myself, a $50 sensor replacement doesn't bother me at all. Getting stranded in a remote area or cold weather with family onboard "because of a failed sensor" and having to get a tow to a dealer would **** me off.
hey guys , a couple of questions ,
On a 2011 in my sig. are all the sensors the same part number ?.
and what would that part number be if I wanted to pick up a spare ?.
And wheres the cheapest place you found them ,
I just paid $52 at my local ford dealer. You could probably find them online a little cheaper but I did not have the luxury of waiting a few days for the part.
I bought a $59 reader that was on sale at AutoZone for $49. It can read and erase codes. Some of the more costlier units can also give you the explanation but since a list of DTC's for most vehicles can be found online, I elected not to go that route.
Several threads on FTE list the codes for our trucks.
