This past weekend the CD player in my '06 started acting up. When I insert a CD it just clicks really fast for maybe 5 seconds and then stops and does not play the disc. It will let me eject the disc and put it back in but it won't play. Anybody else had this problem? Does it need cleaning or is the radio toast? As always, thanks in advance!!

Mine plays but has a hard time with eject, you could try a disc cleaner..

I think that can be fixed. That is if you can find a
shop that will work on the unit. I for one don't
like the multi disk units and everyone I have had gets
removed with in weeks of my owning the truck.
The last one I put back in the truck I traded and it
would not work even though it worked when I took it out.
Died in storage I guess. Plus I tend to use my iPod or iPhone
for most of my music and that does require a new head unit.
I do have a single disk single DIN JVC iPod sitting in a box here. IF......
BTW the clicking is most likely the laser trying to read the disk
cleaning might help or not.
My single disc does the same thing and my daughters Escape 6 disc did the same thing. I had to take them apart to get the CD out and I just gave up on them. You can get a new much better player for less than what a repair would cost. Ford CD players aren't known for their reliability.
If you get an aftermarket head unit, consider one using bluetooth or one with an SD memory card.
I bought one with no CD, SD card only, and loaded most of my music onto it. I considered the iphone/ipod to bluetooth, but realized it will just drain my phone battery life sooner.
Thanks again for the help! I think I'll do some shopping and see what I can find. I do have a good bit of music on my phone that I wouldn't mind playing in the truck. After all,if I've gotta pull the dash out anyway..........might as well put a new one in. If a simple in dash cleaning doesn't fix it I'll prob. just replace it with something better.

I'm not sure why you'd have to pull the dash but that's a really easy chore anyway. Takes about 5 minutes or less.....

Don't you have to pull the whole "dash cover" off to get the radio out ? I thought the whole cover needed to be pulled and the headlights, heater controls, etc. needed to be unplugged to get it out of the way ? No, it's not a big deal but is there a short cut I don't know about ?
Simple job to go after market, be sure it has a usb port.Depending on radio you could have a pocket to park phone and remote.Don't use wire nuts. I went with Crutchfields,Great customer service and good prices. My new face plate was broken and I was leaving on a road trip the next day. They shipped two replacements to be sure that one would arrive on time.
May still have factory radio if interested.I have to double check, have hard time throwing anything out.I still have extra face plate.
Ok guys. I tried cleaning it with no improvement. So......I guess I'm in the market for an aftermarket radio. Any suggestions as to what you guys have installed and been happy with. I want something that will "look like it belongs" in the truck. Good fit/finish if possible. Don't need anything real fancy, just as long as it will receive AM/FM stations and play CD's (single disc is all I need) preferably with an auxillary capability, I have lots of good music on my phone that would be nice to listen to in the truck. Bluetooth is not necessary but I'm not against it. I don't want GPS either. What have ya'll installed and been happy with ? Pics would be nice if you have them. Thanks in advance!!

All you need is the "special" tool to get the radio out. You can actually build the forks out of a coat hanger or get them for $6 at Autozone . The radio slides straight out of the hole, disconnect the electrical connections and it's done. Here's a pic: http://www.handsontools.com/OTC-7575...ol_p_3591.html
