If you have a scan tool that can access pending diagnostic codes, there is probably a code for the cylinder that is randomly misfiring. But if a coil was swimming in coolant, there's a good chance it's been damaged.
Assuming you have a scan tool that can check pending codes, you could swap the suspect coil with another coil, reset the codes, then wait for the misfires again, check the codes, and see if the misfire followed the cylinder.
You won't want to run it too long with a misfire though as that could damage the catalytic converters.
On my V8 02 XLT Explorer the engine is running rough like it's missing.
I think a coil may have gone bad,,found a LOT of anti-freeze down in the spark plug hole.
Have replaced the intake but now need to fix the roughness.
Is there any easy way to check each coil? Or should I be checing something else?
Thanks
HF
If its a dead miss at idle you can pull each coil primary connector one at a time an not the change in idle if it drops its ok little to no change and you have found your cylinder.
