F150 Leaf Spring Replacement

With 209,000 miles my springs are shot and the hangers have holes in them. Figure now is the time to replace. I tow the occasional trailer and frequently haul 500+ lbs in the bed, occasionally haul a lot more. The truck is the one in my signature. I'll have to check the spring code, but I'm ok with a little firmer ride. I plan to replace rear hangers, shackles, springs, U-bolts, and all the bushing bolts.

Jeff's Bronco Graveyard has good spring prices (even w/ shipping). Does the 1700lb spring set sound like the correct ones for my truck (1 main arch w/ 3 leaf pack)? What length of U-bolts should I order? This is a factory setup--no lift, just the stock 2" lift block/bump stop.

Thanks for the input!

When I put rear springs on my F150 I measured from the front bushing eye to the spring bolt and from the spring bolt to the rear bushing eye and measured the spring pack thickness then ordered from General Spring according to those measurements and got what I needed for a stock replacement. I had them the day after I ordered them, which pleased me no end.

On the VIN sticker on the driver's side B pillar you will find a RAWR, or rear axle weight rating. Your chosen spring, whether from Bronco Graveyard or General Spring (or whoever else sells springs) should be approximately half that rating. Two springs working in concert will bring you up to approximately that RAWR.

As far as U bolts, they need to be long enough to go around the axle tube, all the way past the spring perch, all the way past the spring pack, all the way through the spring plate, and all the way through the nut securing them plus at least two threads. The best way to get the right size would be to measure what's already on there, correcting for any difference in the spring pack thickness. And a little longer won't be as big a problem as too short.

Have fun. I sure did when I put mine on.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'm really looking forward to having a truck that doesn't drop it's bumper to the ground with 500lbs in the bed again. My RAWR is only 3777lbs so I think a 1700lb spring would be about right. Figured I ought to just measure the current u bolts, I was just being lazy with the nearly constant sub zero weather we've been having.

ATS I'll message you soon, thanks
