So trucks started like total crap yesterday. After it warmed up the CEL finally threw a code. it was low on gas so I filled it to half a tank. I checked the codes and both of these came up.
P0171 and P0174. I cleared the codes cause I thought the low fuel caused it. I Drove for like two or three minutes and it came back on. Any suggestions. She started really rough this morning and it does have some lope to the idle but I'm thinking the cold has something to do with it.
Any other ideas, I want to compile a large list so i can check it all tomorrow. The engine runs ok, but it hesitates under load. If I put it in 2 and step on it, it studders under the load.
Ok.....Will do. Didnt get to do it today, military got in the way. But will check it first thing tomorrow. Any tips on how to check for vacuum leaks other than the obvious broken hoses?
At the bottom of the throttle body, towards the passenger side, the PCV elbow is probably rotted you won't be able to tell by just looking at it. Give it a good squeeze. It's easy to replace. Just go to the parts house and buy some large vac hose or heater hose. I replaced mine with a 2 foot length and it cleared the problem up.
Could be some serious misfires or when you were low on gas picked up some sediment from the bottom of tank.
When was the fuel filter changed last? I would run some system cleaner like seafoam or chevron techron.
I would also look for misfires. 1 cop at a time seeing if anything gets better. If so but not smooth go on to the next cylinder.
If you read the article linked to in post #9, including the linked TSB, it will give you much details in how to troubleshoot the cause.
This assumes yo replaced the correct hose with the correct part and that you properly reset the system and that you allowed the monitors to properly run. That's a lot of assumptions with no input from you as to whether or not they might be correct.
Misfires won't cause "lean" codes. No need to go there.
Low fuel delivery (weak pump, restricted fuel line/filter, faulty pressure regulator, etc) will but in-tank "cleaners" likely won't help.
Do you have a scan tool that supports live data? Have you looked that the freeze frame data?
I did reset the codes, the hose i replaced was the PCV elbow on the throttle body. I was low on fuel and the fuel filter was changed not too long ago...maybe something got sucked in and clogged it?
