so here in good ole northern minnesota we have had weather that has been pretty nasty the past couple of days and now today weather was -27 below zero wind chills and -12 below outside... went to work this morning at 4am and the excursion started right up without any hesitation at all. i got to work at 5am and left right around 11am for a meeting and it started really rough it was cranking fast just was popping and before it started it sounded like a little back fire.. is this normal for the v10s in really cold weather like this i know with my old ford f100 in the winters it starts really rough and pisses and pops just to get her going in the morning... i wish my excursion had a block heater ive tried to look for a plug everywhere but cannot find one
i currently work 34 miles away from home... i just recently had all of the coils gone through when it was sputtering and the dealership replaced two with new coils and all the plugs... i have been looking on amazon and ebay and have not found any frost plug style block heaters for the 6.8 anywhere online
I'm actually suprised it doesn't have a factory block heater! Maybe it wasn't ordered in the Midwest. The factory plug in is around the drivers side front tow hook to get you looking in the right place. When I bought my X it was tucked up behind the bumper and had never been used. It's worth another look!
yes i know i was amazed as well i have searched hi and low even looking in the engine bay and have found nothing as of a cord even my 03 chevy silverado 5.3 liter has a block heater i dont understand why my limited wouldnt have one with a v10 in it... could it be possibly just missing the power cord ? has anyone seen that before.... i know they normally go in the frost plugs but does anyone know which side of the block it would be on or tucked away at ?
Mine is on the drivers of the engine towards the firewall. It's either the closest one to the firewall or the next one. My cord has an orange end where it's in the frost plug and then it's wrapped in aluminum tape to help with heat. I tried to get a pic but it's tight quarters looking in from the inner fender.
