ok... i need to test an o2 sensor on my exhaust manifold. this is a 4.9 96' f150 with 'heated' sensors. there are four wires, two white, one gray and one black. my understanding is that if i connect a voltmeter to a cold sensor with the key on and engine off, it should read around 0.45 volts. After the sensor is properly heated up, i should see a reading fluctuate between 0.2 and 0.7 volts. or, if the system is running lean it should remain below 0.45 volts indicating unburnt oxygen.
i'm getting a lean error code from the computer obdii and would like to know if the sensor is giving a false reading. comparing a cold to a hot reading should give me some insight, right? a sensor that was stuck giving a lean signal would stay below 0.45 even when cold? what wire should i connect the voltmeter to?
