Speedometer Still Doesnt Work
I need some assistance if somebody can help it's much appreciated. I have a 1983 F-250 with a 4-speed automatic trans. My speedometer is not currently functioning at all. I have already replaced the plastic drive gear in the transfer case and the entire cable from speedo. down, but no results. I can rotate with my fingers or a drill and get response... This leads me to believe it must be in the transfer case but I'm not really sure. Any ideas?

Not for sure on your t-case but a borg 1356 ( in my 88 and 96) has a plastic worm gear that drives the cable gear. If i stick my finger in the hole i can feel it. It is held onto the shaft with a single ball bearing which acts like a keyway.

If you replaced a chewed up driven gear on the cable end, the drive gear in your transfer case will be shot, now why didn't ford make the drive gear metal I don't know, if they would have, we would only need to replace the driven gear and not have to rip apart tranny's and transfer cases to repair these drive gears.
