Help! I was wondering what I would need to do to convert my 1977 3-speed column shift to a floor shift. I am not real experienced at this but do know a few motorheads who could help once I know what to do. Or, tell me where I can find steering column parts for said vehicle. I only need the part where the shift lever connects to the column and it is NOT a part of the collar. Thanks.
The three-speed aftermarket shifter is relatively inexpensive and easy to install. Most auto parts stores carry the kits, and you can get them at places like Jegs, Summit, etc. The hardest part is locating and cutting the floorboard hole where the shifter will mount. After that, it's just a matter of bolting on the shifter and rods, and adjusting them.
You will probably have to go to a wrecking yard to find the stock shifter piece you are looking for.
I did this exact conversion on my 2wd supercab, it wasn't hard at all to do. The hardest part was getting the linkage perfect so she still shifted smooth. I bought the hurst indy truck three speed shifter from summit. I have tons of pics if you'd like to see them, but you'll have to send me a personal email if you'd like them. Good luck, it only took me about an hour to get it installed and then an hour of driving and shifting and adjusting afterwards, no biggie. Really improves the driveability of my truck too!!!
This is perfect timing. I am just about to convert my column to floor on my 75 f100. Would you mind sharing the pics. My personal email is jcrealdeal@yahoo.com. I am also interested in knowing if you also looked at the mastercraft as I cant decide between that or indy. Thanks
