Lets talk diffs

Ok so Ive been thinking of swapping out rear on my truck. Currently I have a 92 f150 with a 3.08 open and Im looking for something more...better, I guess you can say. My truck is a dd, it will never see anything bigger than a 33in tire and 4in lift, I will tow but nothing more than what an f150 is rated for, and it will see some mud. Also I want to go to a 3.73 gear. What can I expect from an 8.8 lsd with this setup or should I just swap to a sterling 10.25 and 8 lug all the way around?

I went from a 3.08 open to a gear driven L/S 4.56 gear best mod I have ever done to the truck. Funny, I actually sent the truck back to the gear shop because transmission was acting weird, turns out I wasn't use to the new shift points! I swear to you, you''ll chirp those 33's at every light with 4.56 gears or lower (4.88.. etc). I recommend 4.10 over 4.56 if you do quite a bit of highway driving.

Doing that ^ is much more justified than simply upgrading to an 8 lug for "added strength" you won't even notice.

So 5.8 with an E4OD? If so go with 4.10 gears.

You won't take advantage of the added strength of a sterling if your only running 33s.

If it was my truck and it had the 351, I'd regard to 4.10s as well. If it had the 300 (or 302 for that matter) I'd bump it up to 4.56s.
