Ok so Ive been thinking of swapping out rear on my truck. Currently I have a 92 f150 with a 3.08 open and Im looking for something more...better, I guess you can say. My truck is a dd, it will never see anything bigger than a 33in tire and 4in lift, I will tow but nothing more than what an f150 is rated for, and it will see some mud. Also I want to go to a 3.73 gear. What can I expect from an 8.8 lsd with this setup or should I just swap to a sterling 10.25 and 8 lug all the way around?
I went from a 3.08 open to a gear driven L/S 4.56 gear best mod I have ever done to the truck. Funny, I actually sent the truck back to the gear shop because transmission was acting weird, turns out I wasn't use to the new shift points! I swear to you, you''ll chirp those 33's at every light with 4.56 gears or lower (4.88.. etc). I recommend 4.10 over 4.56 if you do quite a bit of highway driving.
Doing that ^ is much more justified than simply upgrading to an 8 lug for "added strength" you won't even notice.
