Both of my map light switches are broken. Neither would push in and actually engage the switch the way it should. I've taken the lamp cover off but it would appear as though getting above the console is the only way to attempt to fix.
Do I need to purchase a different overhead console to fix? Not quite sure how to proceed. I've done some searching but am not finding answers.
Pull the console down from the front, two clips hold it together, one in the back you wont brake it but its hard.
I just took off mine to fix the display. the harness has two of those switches, you might be able to order it from Ford.
Do a quick search on how to repair the overhead console display and you will find instructions on taking the console off.
In my 2004 Eddie Bauer, I had to first pull the front out nearest the rearview mirror. It feels like it might break but it will not, just need to pull it down. You then have to open up the console storage dropdown and there will be a Phillips screw that needs to be taken out. After that there is one more pulldown at the back which is fairly straightforward. After this you can just disconnect all the wires and take it over to your workbench.
In terms of why the buttons aren't working need some more info to diagnose:
Are the springs still working? AKA do they buttons have resistance when pushed in or do they just move around?
So if both switches are broken there might be a bad connection somewhere because I doubt that both springs would go out at the same time. However if it is the switches themselves then you could just throw a new push button in both and see if that works, should only be $2-3 per button.
