Got a new Excursion!
After looking for months I found an extremely clean 2002 Excursion Limited. Has all the bells and whistles with the exception of the sun roof. The car fax looked good, plus the 1 owner had all service records from when it was new. This truck is in damn good good shape from what I could tell. Interior in near perfect condition, no signs of leaks underneath etc. Its sitting at 141,000 miles with the v-10 drivetrain, 2wd. Are there any known problems to keep and eye out for on these trucks? As far as I can tell everything works as it should.

It sounds like you got one with all the bells and whistles then, the EX's never got the sunroof option.
The earlier V-10s had the issue with the spark plugs blowing out, I'm not sure of exactly when the PI heads were improved to allow for more threads in the plug holes, I'm thinking it was sometime in '02 though. Still not a big deal, just read up on the proper way to replace them and they shouldn't have any problems. The V-10s are great motors, change the oil regularly with at least semi-synth and keep clean filters on it and it will last and last.

Thanks for the tips, will look at the ball joints this weekend. It will mainly be a family hauler. I really wanted a Ex for the room. I am going to be installing a curb side lift for my wife's electric wheel chair. With her disability she is not in a chair permanent, but it is need for trips that require a lot of walking. We can lift it and haul inside vs. on a carrier in the elements. The Ex has enough room for the my 2 kids, the chair, groceries/luggage etc.

nice. I also have a 02 with the V-10. Same type Limited just a different color with low miles. So, far it has been very reliable and smooth. But, I took it to the Ford dealer when I first bought it and had them do a complete change everything and new Michelin tires. lol

Wife and i spent a couple of hours driving around the area tonight, checking the EX out. It rides a lot better than I thought it would, never knew what we were missing having all that room! I am real close to liking it better than my new 2013 CC,4x4.....had to get back home and park it for the night.
One thing I would like to change are mirrors. It has the small mirrors with turn signal in it. Do the towing mirrors come with the signal in them? is it a straight forward swap as long as its all electric from the donor vehicle?

2002+ Excursions have the wiring already pre-installed. they are 100% compatible with 2008+ style mirrors
unbolt the dog ear style, bolt on the tow mirrors and plug in the connector. 15-20 minutes and you're driving away
