After searching the earth far and wide for an Excursion in good shape for a decent price, I bought one yesterday. This forum really helped me research common problems and weed out a few potential problem vehicles, one of them had oil dripping out of a rusted oil pan that I dont think the owner knew about... doh! Its true that good ones are getting really hard to find (for a decent price)
I ended up with a Black 2005 XLT 4x4 V10 with 89k miles on it. It was taken care of and with the exception of a few scratches looks new. I really love the 05 front ends. This one never saw any mud, stayed down south and is clean underneath. Engine bay looks super clean. Has a tight front end with still working auto hubs, doesn't look like the RV plug was ever used as it still has the factory looking contact grease behind some old spider webs under the cap, so probably didn't even tow much. has the factory DVD thing that my kids love, has leather that I love, and its the same color as the wifes 2010 Mountaineer which she loves. Looking forward to using this truck and this forum!
Not at all, I traded an old 97 F150 that needed some work and it left me with 15K left to pay. They really did me right on the trade as I was prepared to sell it outright for what they gave me.
They dont bother me. Its just that they show up really good on a black vehicle. But for some reason I keep buying black trucks. They just look so good when clean.
Yes, the round plug. I have always called them RV plugs. The 4 flat looks like a dog chewed on it and it doesnt clip into the bracket any longer, but thats the only sign of use in the hitch region.

I would fix that flat 4 pin socket or cap them off. Any loose exposed wire could create a short and burn out some electrical components in your truck.
Thanks, Its not through to to wires. Just chewed up on the black rubber part that goes into the bracket. I will secure it back up so no dogs are tempted to chew it.
Yeah thats the other thing I need to order. I only got one pair of headphones for the DVD thing. Need another. Piping it through FM is full of static. The wire going to the TV antennae on the passengers side rear window is cut almost in half at one point though, does it send out the FM through this same antennae? I wasnt going to fix it as its not a digital tuner, but if it makes the DVD through FM sound better, I will.
