One of the frequent questions, mine included, is how well the 6.2 will pull a trailer. After exhaustive research, I found this test article from a few years back. If you seen it, oops, and if you haven't you can draw your own conclusions. The diesels are included too. 2010 HD 7 Percent Hill Climb Test - PickupTrucks.com Special Reports
If you can embrace the high rpms, you would be pleased with how well the 6.2 performs going up a 7-8% grade. I have done it with no problems a few times. On one pass we were at 14,800+ GCWR going 55 mph at the bottom of a 8% grade; 2.5 miles later we were at 70 mph not even pushing that hard. I truly believe when pulling less than 11,000 there is no where you could not go with the 6.2 paired with 3.73 diff.

I was surprised at how close the gassers were to the diesels. Just a few seconds slower and a few mph less at the top. They were the slightly less powerful 6.7, but to me it's not a race anyway. I'm not in that big a hurry.

This has been my sole point for not buying a 6.7 for the much higher up front cost and more money to maintain it truly is not needed IMO to have one. If you pulled that weight everyday that's a different story and if diesels could offer 6-8 mpg over gas then I would say yes to a diesel all day long.
Diesels are great until your warranty is expired and you HAVE to pay out of pocket to fix it. $2500 to $6000 is common to fix a semi-major issue. $7000 to $12000 for a " Houston we have a problem" repair. Been there done that. Stay away from diesels unless you have $$$$$$$$ to burn.

Embracing rpms is the biggest part of pulling with the 6.2, coming from a V10 I already knew about the rpms and pulling so it didn't take me anytime at all to embrace the 6.2 and it's strong points. What took me the longest was the 6 speed and how to use it to get the most out of the motor. A 6.2 , 4.30 gears, 16K trailer in tow, 3rd gear, steep grade and 55 mph brings a smile to my face.

I would like to clarify something for anyone that may be looking at the 6.2, we don't run the high rpms all the time when pulling heavy loads just when pulling grades. Under normal road conditions I run 5th and 6th gear and you don't hear the motor.

I experienced this first hand with my truck and a 6.7 at the Ohio meets. Our times were extremely close, the 6.7's being marginally faster.

Great point Denny I think a lot of people think the gas engine is always screaming moving heavier weights which it doesn't.
