Cold Air Intakes..

I am running a 2008 F350 4x4, CC, SWB, LB with a MiniMax and DPF delete.. Currently can get a touch over 17mpg unloaded on the highway running the mild tune at street level. I'm looking at investing into a CAI and primarily looking at AFE. I know a lot of people run S&B, but I'm not sure what the pros/cons are of either? Or if it is just personal preference? The reason I am looking at AFE right now is for the AFE MagnumFORCE Stage-2 Si Pro-GUARD 7 Intake System (it is completely inclosed and has a hood scoop that runs down to the grill, I believe.) does anyone have personal experience with this set up? Anyone think the good scoop is a bad idea? I was thinking it would be pretty good about putting air in the system once you started moving. At idle or slower speeds maybe not so good though..?

My main question is just which company I should invest my money with for a good quality CAI.

Thanks for the input.

Will just about everything I have done to my truck is aFe and they are great.

I think most go to sb because they are cheaper but still a good product.

I want the best and the hell with the rest. Lol

I have heard the afe is the better product before.. Not trying to bust your *****, but do you have anything to support afe being better than s&b? Higher air flow or...? Like I said, not trying to bust your *****, just curious why people always say afe is better..

Sometimes more $$ doesn't always equal a better product.. Most of the time it does, but not always.. And I wasn't sure if that's the reason people are stating the afe is better

No prob, bust away I can take it. Lol..

Actually this would be a great question to aFe.
They would probably be the best resource as you are looking for hard facts

It was between SB and aFe for me. I went aFe as it was more easily available in my area at the time.

I think they are pretty close to being the same, cannot go wrong with either, I have used AFE on my last 2 and they fit and perform great

I had the banks ram air on my 08. Also an excellent choice. Tight fit, good filtration.

Has anyone used the sealed aFe with the hood scoop? I was thinking of getting that one, but am not sure if it would have a sufficient amount of air flow, especially at slower speeds or at idle.

I went with the AFE stage 2 originally but I didn’t like the increase in inlet air temps so I changed to the Volant cold air intake. I am very pleased with the Volant, the inlet temps are lower, their is less turbo whistle in the cab and more thru the side vent on the passenger side.

here is a link for the volant:

I over tighten it and buckled causing unfiltered air to get in for about 1000 miles before I caught it. Volant warranted the part and I haven’t had an issue since but I am more conscious about checking it and making sure I don’t over torque the hose clamp for the filter.

If i had the chance to due it again i would go with a no-limt fab cold air intake even through its a open filter it is the highest flowing CAI i have seen. I think the trade off for the extra flow out weights the small temp increase IMO. The only draw back is there is no provision for the CCV so you would have to re-route that which is not hard i have had mine re -routed for some time.

here is a link for the no-limit

Just my 10 cents on intakes.......
