Transfer Tank (Advice? + Pics)

I recently picked up a transfer tank/tool box combo for $300. Its 45 gallons, and sits below the bed rails. The guy had it linex'ed right before he sold it too.

I am planning on plumbing it to the fill neck (via a kit) to fill the main tank. I wanted to gravity feed it at first, but due to complications with the tank, I will have it on a pump.

The tank is already plumbed for a pump, and all I need to do is hook up a hose and pump to it. We dropped a GoPro into the tank to inspect it and it looks good, and is baffled.

I am using an
Airtex E8248 Airtex E8248
which is a universal inline pump rated at 60-70GPH, and has good reviews in similar applications.

There was some crud in the tank, so I used some diesel to flush it out; red, because its cheaper and I can

[IMG][/IMG]

So I looked at all of the options for pump mounting, and I decided in the tool box because it will be protected there. I didnt like anywhere between the bed walls and the fill neck because it would be vulnerable in an accident (although it wouldnt be that big of a deal unless it was on).

With this tank, I should have a range of 1500+ miles.

If anyone has any tips or advice from experience, post it up. Otherwise, I will just add pictures of the install.

IF I ever get a bed that is not a rusted POS, I'd like to get one. Maybe a tank/box combo.

It's a long list of "wants," lol

Looks good Trey!

That is a super deal on that tank/box combo.. Nice Job. Wish i found one like that.. I added a 40 gallon (gravity) and love it. I shaved off 1.5 hours on fuel stops traveling to myrtle beach. You will like yours too.

You might want to supply the power for the additional pump from the "upset switch", the same as the frame-rail pump gets its power.

Maybe through a relay, to amplify the source current (though I'm not sure it needs an additional relay).

Might be nice in case of collision while that pump is operating.

I have a 91 gal aux in mine and I ran it as a gravity fed system for about a year before I switched to a bed-mounted pump. I just ran a switch from the dash to the pump and it has worked out very well. Here is a pic...

My box sits just below the rail and is covered by the bed cover

Yup. That is how i did mine. My tank is gravity fed. I have had no issues at all with a gravity and the way we did the filler neck install. Hasn't leaked a drop. No issues with the groments in the top of the tank or the fuel cap leaking.

I did gravity feed and also installed an inline filter. My combo box and tank is custom built such that the bottom 10" is baffled fuel cell and top 15" is dry box so it looks like a normal dry box, with filler inside dry box. When mounting it to the truck bed I mounted it at two points only at the rear of the box. The reason for only two places is to account for truck bed flex, if you don't do this (and bolt all four corners down) there is a risk of the truck bed flex over time pulling the box apart. Another good mod is to install an F26e fuel tank to replace the rear as it's 38 us gallons (145 litres).

I've thought about it, but I'm just going to run it off of a switch in the cab. Perhaps down the road I will add a shut off in the tool box and label it as the emergency shut off for any emergency responders.

Thats a good point about the 4 corners.

As for the F26e, that would be complicated swap, since this is the superduty section

I had an F350 aft tank which is basically the same thing. I just didn't want to cut out the cross member.
