Red face Cold Start making Block Heater a MUST

When I try to start my 6.0 in cooler temps even though it may be 55 degrees if it starts it runs very rough. But if plug the block heater in it will start right up and usually run quite well. I am at a loss I tested the FICM in the past but have not checked it lately. Wondering what to do at this point. Thanks for your time.. Harry

Check your FICM first. Sounds like injectors sticking.

Plugging in the block heater in effect can also warm up the FICM allowing it to operate better than stone cold.

Need to check FICM voltage KOEO, Crank and Cold Start.

Need to check for pending or "soft" codes, especially contribution codes that could pinpoint sticking injectors.

Harry Your Best bet is to Find a gauge setup you like that Plugs into the OBDII Port

You can then test what these guys are telling you to test

I have had to start mine at -15 without being plugged in...
She started right up and warmed up quicker than I thought..

I do use Power Service in the White bottle regularly- double dose per instructions on bottle (or as close as I pour when i fill up)

I have to agree with the experts- you need to look for why your truck doesn't like the cool

could be simple, (fuel, filters, oil), or as I am reading getting ready to get expensive!

Benny I have the Scan Gauge II and have no codes that are showing I am afraid I do not know how to find 'soft' codes. But evrything that I have found seems to indicate FICM trouble but whether it is or not, I called Ed today and ordered a new one with an ECO tune as blue spring fuel pressure kit. Gonna find out for sure one way or another. LOL Thanks so much for all your help. Harry

The SG2 isn't great for reading codes.
Input the PIDs for FICM Main Power and FICM Logic Power and that should help you with the health of the FICM.
