So last weekend I was checking out under the truck just to see what sort of state everything was in and it looked like there was a missing cover on the bottom of the transmission near where it mates to the engine. I'll try and get a picture of the location I mean, but thought I would ask about it right now. I've been trying to find something that mentions this spot, but haven't been able to.
If there is a missing plug/cover would anyone happen to have the part number or at least know the proper name so I could find a replacement?
I was finally able to get some pictures today. Is there something missing from the bottom of my transmission or is it supposed to be like that?
One other thing I noticed looked almost like a cut speed sensor at the rear. Does anyone know what that little thing is sticking out of the driver's side of the transmission?
the bottom of the trans is normal, they leave that gap there on purpose. As for that cut speed sensor, it almost looks like a speedo cable end to me. is that the original trans for the truck?

Thank you for informing me about the gap. As for the speed sensor/reverse light, I have no clue. I'm the sixth owner of this truck and have no clue what the previous owners have done to it. My assumption is that the original transmission died and was replaced with an 89-91 version. Does that seem correct? When I was at the junk yard in December there was trucks of similar years with a manual transmission, so I've been thinking about replacing the unit I have.

On an M5OD, the only electrical plug is for the reverse lights. Speed sensor is on the main top of the rear axle housing (2 wire setup) on 4x2 trucks
88-91 versions had a VSS and speedometer cable drive on the tailshaft. I'm pretty sure that's what we are looking at. The reverse light switch is in the top plate with the shift rails, and looks like it is plugged in from the position of the wiring harness in last picture.
