I initially installed the HP-1 Fram filter, as it came with the remote mount as a package deal. I am switching to a Baldwin B252 filter at the next change. It has the same specs as the BT111 that Pop used, but with a slightly thicker (+.050'') gasket. It is shown as a remote mounted filter for Allison transmission applications. I don't know it there is any difference in the filtering media, but the micron ratings are the same. I chose this filter due its transmission application.
Thanks for reporting back brother!! Did you find in your research that the HP1 was NOT up to the job? I ask because I have yet to install my set up and I can always use the HP1 on my boat. I have remote dual HP1 set up on my boat. But I do like the idea of the thicker gasket on the B252 and it is for a trans app. Now when you say the micron ratings are the same do you mean for all 3: HP1 & BT111 & B252 ? Or only the Bt111 & B252 ?

Thanks again Pop for the great write up !! And now after staring at your website for awhile I think next filter modd will be you P/S spin on filter set up.
That makes sense. I'm seeing some folks complaining of casting issues/leaks with the trans-dapt base, so I was looking at the other base options.
Really ?? Like I said I have yet to install mine I'll have to look it over good and maybe test it with air first. Thanks for the heads up!

Good idea Rob ! That was the only thing I didn't care for with Bob's set up as far as where it was mounted..
Better safe than sorry, so I am sure that 1/8 plate gives you a little piece of mind when you kick something up on the road.

It's not that the Fram HP-1 is less desirable. I was looking for a Baldwin alternative that was less expensive and that I could get from my company parts supplier. I do most of our filter purchasing and get "company pricing" from my sales rep. I purchase my "specialty filters" from him for my truck. I found the B252 while crossing the HP-1 filter number and did some comparisons to the other filters. I cannot say that it is better than the others, but I like that is used for a transmission app. I am not 100% on the HP-1, but the BT-111 and B252 are both 12 micron filters.
Also, I am using the Transdapt filter housings for both my transmission and secondary fuel filters. I have had no issues with either one as far as quality or fit.
