the FE's don't leak oil they just mark their territory lol i have only owned 1 FE and one FT that didn't leak oil.....and i have to say i know a 360/352 that on 5 cylinders would still break em loose on gravel lol.... my dad had a 360 that literally had a catch pan under the truck to catch the oil he would filter it through a coffee filter and then put it back in the truck as needed lol he always joked that old brownie got 13 miles to gallon gas and about the same with oil lol

Yup, they are like male dogs.......
I've seen 360's run with 5 burned exhaust valves. Any more than that and they can be a real pain to get started.
I had one that had a burned exhaust valve, and it was a royal pain to take off from a stop without breaking the tires loose. Just above idle RPM, that 8th cyl would kick in, and the tires could rarely handle the extra burst of power.

Old 2 stroke Detroit Diesel's are the same way. If they ain't leaking oil, there ain't none in it. Hiway dept's used to wait for one to pass, and they'd fall in behind it with a gravel spreader truck......... Cheapest road resurface method around.
My 351 in my 94 would leave a 6" around puddle everyday I parked it at school, and with it being a CCLB it marked its spot farther out than most peoples bumpers. It also had 1 entirely dead cylinder and 3 just about to follow... And it lost(burnt/leaked) 5 quarts of oil in a 60 mile round trip. Now my 360 in my 76 leaks like a water bottle that's been shot with birdshot at point blank and it doesn't even drop anything! The 400 I want to put in my truck leaked just as bad also. I'm seriously thinking about selling the cummins I have and building a 390 for my truck now just from firing up my truck today and listening to those straight pipes rumble. This damn 360 smokes out of the drivers pipe and still fires up first turn over hot or cold! As far as I know it has headers, an intake, and maybe a cam and the Holley projection thingy makes it a rocket with the 245,000+miles it has.

I had that same smoking issue on the 7.5 cyl 360, except it was the pass pipe. Popped off the valve cover, reamed out the plugged rear oil drain hole, and cured that smoking issue.
It's mostly just after it sits it smokes. I seriously want to build and FE but these things cost as much as diesels almost... I'm thinning about keeping the FE just to listen to them pipes, even though I have a perfectly running 400/np435/dana21 combo I want to drop in.(I'm one of those must-have-a-man-pedal people)
Exactly what I was looking for.
I didn't care about hp. The fact that I got it was icing on the cake.
Started with a 105 block with webbing.
4.125 bore
4.125 Scat crank kit
6.8 rods
Custom Ross pistons (can give you specs)
Stock D2 heads with some cleanup work and a nice valve job.
XR270HR Comp roller cam
Comp roller lifters
PRW roller rockers with Manton adjusters and Manton push rods
Performer intake port matched to heads
700 Holley dp
If you don't mind my asking, Why didn't you go with the 4.25" or 4.375" crank? Money is about the same, isn't it?
