Need help with remote starter

My 06 f350 power stroke has a viper 2way remote starter.
When I try to start it when the truck is cold it doesn't crank long enough for it to start the truck. It will try 3 times when I hit the start button and normally won't go. It almost starts most times but stops cranking right before it starts. This is driving me nuts.

I just tried 3 times to start the truck and it in ally went on the 8th time trying to crank.

Anyone have any suggestions??

I'm not sure about your specific model, but on some of these you can adjust the crank time in the settings, check the owners manual of the Viper to see if you have that option.

I looked up the model on directed website and there are several different crack times longest being 4 seconds. I didn't see if there was a delay but I don't recall if there are glowplugs for the 6.0, but that could affect it as well

That's the manual for my starter.
I saw the crank time but I have no idea how to change it.

First find your valet switch mine was near the fuse block under the dash. The. Read the directions starting on page 33 in the manual you posted. Looks like basically you turn the key on tap the button for which menu you want then push the button for the amount of times to get to the feature you want. I also have a viper but only a 1 way remote. I turned mine to 4 sec. Starts every time. But I also had the option to a timer to wait for to start instead of the wait to start light. Don't worry with the no grind setup the starter will not grind.

It's explained in the manual starting on page 33 on how to change the settings, however it can be complicated to do. What I'd suggest you do if you're not comfortable with trying this is to take it to the local car stereo/car alarm dealer that sells viper alarms and have them change it for you. Often times they won't charge you anything to do this.

I brought it to te dealer once already. They changes It from 30sec to 15sec delay and it's at at like a 1.5-2 sec crank.

They tried to learn the tach and the voltage thing.

I'll try and adjust the delay to 30sec and crank to 4sec

What if it starts before the 4sec is up will it keep cranking till the 4 sec is up or stop once the tach is read.

Just went out as tried it. I got into menu 2 and the section 5 for crank time but this is the part that I can't figure out. It says to hit lock on the transmitter to turn feature on and unlock to turn feature off. Well there are 9 options. It doesn't say how to tell which one it is on.

When u hit the button on the remote it will honk in the list it says how many flashes or honk is what setting so you will hit the remote button and here say honk honk, hit it again and honk honk honk, until you get to the setting you want. I would recommend hooking up a battery charger as by the time I flipped the key back and forth and went thru all the settings I wanted to change I ran two brand new batteries to low to start the truck. I also programmed everything in the menu to my liking.

Page 9 in the manual explains how to connect to the wait to start light. I have a 2001, and I tapped mine right behind the insturment cluster. Works every time., I have 20 years of experience as an installer, this is the only way to make a remote start consistently work in a diesel vehicle. IT might be a PITA to do this, but you'll spend less time using this feature than trying to program it to work. And it will always work.

Every time you push the lock button it just honks/flashes once. I hit the unlock to turn it off and then hit the lock 9 times and it seems to have worked. Now it cranks long enough to start.

If I still have issues I'll look for the wait to start wire and hook it up.
