Computer issue

Hi,

I have a fairly new Dell Vostro Desktop, and tonight it wouldn't show any display when I turned it on. It did show that there was a signal.

Checked out the cable and monitor -- they were OK.

Finally noticed that it had an HDMI out. That works, but for some reason it takes a long time to appear ( several minutes).

I'm hoping that there's some kind of video card, but it's probably integrated.

Any thoughts?

How new is it? Warranty expired?

It does kind of sound like the video controller is dying and I'm pretty certain it's integrated onto the motherboard...

Warranty, of course not. Oh, and it's a Vostro 240.

Only good thing is that I downloaded the manual, and it talks about a separate video board. It's shown as one of the options, but it's the only one that is described as having HDMI.

Don't know about computes these days -- I had to fool around with the display settings to get a decent pic with my monitor. Compute is NOT happy that I'm not using the optimum resolution. Even put up a message on bootup tonight.

Guess they had to replace that 'unused icons on your desktop' with something,
