I'm sure there's a million threads on here about pickups missing. But mine just randomly started missing today. Then ran fine now misses all the time and I'm gettin lots of black smoke. Just figured itd be easier making a new thread and seein what ya'll have in mind. Thanks
Bear with me here guys. I'm new to the diesel game. I just got this 6.0 a month ago. Don't know a whole lot but I'm willing to learn and I'd like to. It's a 2003. It has 10-30 oil in it right now. It's just our farm pickup. I haven't scanned it yet because it scared me to drive it all the way home so I got it about 20 miles from home in a town named Washburn and I'm going to go pick it up with a trailer later tonight. Then I'll know more.
No check engine light or nothing. Just missing and black smoke.
03's can have stored codes and no CEL. You need to get something to see what the PCM sees like a Scan Gauge II, Dash Boss, or Torque App. You can get it code scanned at most autoparts stores for free. Please write the specific codes down as it will help with some diagnostics.
For a quickie, you might pull the EGR valve and see if its hung open from a chunk of soot......
I beleive it is stock yes. Power is pretty low. It was pretty low before, 272,000 is pretty worn out. But I got it to Washburn an idling it had blue smoke and then when I took off it was black smoke. And I'll take the valve off when I get it home an check it. And if not that I'll have to get it checked out tommoro. I appreciate this a lot guys. Most people hear me say "yeah I got a 6.0!" And they all just laugh and say I made a mistake. But I'd love it if it would run.
